Case Study: Natural lighting for an Early Era Home

In this case study, we meet Annette and Guy whose hospitality was as warm and inviting as their beautiful, early era home. A generational family home bought in the 1950s for only 2000 pounds! This single-story Fibro majestic home has been a well looked after member of the family over the years but alas… poorly designed for natural light.

Annette and Guy stumbled upon the Solatube Natural lighting solutions about 7 years ago and had our 160DS installed in their Kitchen and Dining rooms. They were already converts and had sent through an online enquiry to look at installing more Solatube products into their Bathroom and Study through their Terracotta tile roof.

Sandy, our Sales Team Leader, fielded the enquiry and spoke to Annette and Guy over the phone. They were both so enthusiastic over the phone that Sandy knew she just had to meet these wonderful environmentally conscious Solatube fans in person! Sandy booked the two in for an in-home consultation and planned to also arrive on the day to meet the clients and observe the consultation and installation process.

On the day of the appointment, Tim, our CIC (Certified Installation Consultant) called the clients to notify them of his arrival time. Upon his arrival, he guided the two through the consultation process and began an inspection of the areas where they hoped to introduce natural light into their home. Sandy arrived shortly after he had gone through all the options on placement with Annette and Guy.

From the inspection, Tim concluded that the beams inside the roof cavity were quite limiting inside this older style home, so much care and consideration was taken into account to maximise the light and colour rendition for their new installations. Tim wrote up a quote for the installation of two Solatube 160DS skylights, one in the Bathroom and one in the Study. As the spaces in this early era home were reasonably cozy the 160DS skylight would provide adequate natural lighting as they are ideal for lighting small to medium sized rooms. The clients approved and Tim got straight to work on the install.

Annette and Guy were super excited about their new skylight installation, Sandy secretly wondered if they should join our sales team! As you can see from the amazing before and after shots there was no mistaking the wonderful home improvement our Solatube 160DS skylights brought to their home. Sandy and the clients were completely blown away by the transformation and at how the bathroom’s colour rendition was completely enriched!

After the big reveal, it was time to give a little aftercare to the previous Solatube installs. Tim checked everything on the older installations thoroughly giving the consensus that they were still in an absolutely perfect condition and performing just as well as their new 160DS counterparts.

Thank you for your absolutely brilliant, warm hospitality Annette and Guy. It was a pleasure assisting you with your new installations and we love knowing that your enthusiasm for natural light, plus health and vitality is being rewarded every day!

Case Study: Sydney Skylight Replacement and 290DS Installations

Joe and Belinda, residents in Sydney, called the Solatube Home team about replacing their flexible tubing skylights with our best quality guaranteed daylighting products.

The couple had lived in their beautiful home for many years and renovated quite a bit, which included extending the house and patio. Unfortunately, this extension robbed their home’s interior of too much light that their older daylighting products couldn’t make up for it. This is where Solatube’s superior daylighting products could assist!

Our friendly skylights Sydney sales team booked Joe and Belinda in for an in-home consultation. On the day of the appointment, Hayden one of our Certified Installation Consultants visited the couple’s property to provide a quote and install.

Upon inspection, Hayden found that this job would require more work than a standard install. So, Joe and Belinda decided they wanted to start by replacing the existing tubular skylight in the kitchen.

Hayden organised a licenced trade contractor to replace Joe and Belinda’s ceiling before we completed any installations, as our 290DS skylight was a smaller (but more powerful!) product that would provide a much sleeker look to their space than their old unit.

After the ceiling replacement was completed, a Certified Solatube installer was then organised to go out and re-baton and re-tile the roof and install the 290DS skylight in the kitchen. Joe and Belinda were absolutely delighted with the new skylight in their kitchen! They were so pleased that they immediately booked in for another replacement, and decided to have another new skylight installation in their bathroom THAT SAME DAY.

Later, Joe and Belinda decided to go ahead and replace the other existing lights in the bathroom and Laundry as they were now looking at the superior quality of Solatube’s Brighten Up series and absolutely couldn’t bear to not have that quality throughout their home anymore.

Sandy, our Sales Team Leader, had wonderful conversations with the couple throughout the process and asked to come out for the last install to see the transformation in their home. They agreed and Sandy had the wonderful opportunity of witnessing how beautifully the installations changed the whole look of the rooms. Just take a look at these transformations!

Joe also showed off Belinda’s amazing collection of Swarovski Crystals which were absolutely beautiful and the natural light now entering their home really make them sparkle!

As we were replacing older installs of different sizes, we once again needed to enlist the help of the plasterer to finish off the final installation. This entire process was completed in a matter of days and Joe and Belinda are absolutely delighted with how our Brighten Up series has transformed their home, changing their space for decades to come.

Case Study: 290DS Skylight and Nightlight Installation

The lovely Louise first contacted Solatube back in January this year with an idea she had for her newly purchased family home. Being a young Mum of three children under five years old, she was run off her feet already without the additional task of having to switch the lights on and off in the Kitchen and Dining room during the day.

Louise did an online search for skylights for her home and Solatube Home came up at the top of the search results. Seeing our name piqued Louise’s interest as she’d had similar (older) products already installed in the bathroom and hallway, but our new products looked a lot sleeker and brighter. With a background in interior design, our products definitely appealed to her!

Louise gave our friendly skylights Sydney team a call and was greeted by Sandy, our Sales Team Leader. Sandy ran her through the products, finding Louise was especially interested in the Solar NightLight System for her young children and herself, as this would mean not needing to switch electric lights in the middle of the night waking everyone up. She also told Sandy that the reason her Kitchen and Dining room were so dark was due to the adjacent patio. The patio was a great use of space for energetic children but blocked out the daylight that would otherwise have come through the windows, which was not energy efficient for the environment or her budget.

Louise really did her research and enjoyed reading our case studies on the website which gave her further information on products and customer experiences. After a few phone calls back and forth, Louise decided to go ahead with the installation as a birthday present for herself and her family. Sandy had the pleasure of meeting Louise and her daughter and walking her through the showroom and our products on display.

Square JustFrost™

They discussed the sizes and what would be the most effective for her space and aesthetic. Louise particularly liked the Square 290DS skylights with the JustFrost™ diffuser. Solatube’s 290DS units provide a Light Coverage Area of 23-28 m2 and are ideal for daylighting medium to large-sized rooms. These were to be placed above the Kitchen Island and the Dining Table. With the products selected, all that was left to do was book the skylight installation date!

Sandy was very thankful to Louise for inviting her into her home to document the installation process and watch what a huge impact the Square Tubular Skylights had in her gorgeous home. Jayden, our Certified Installation Consultant, consulted with Louise on the placement and ran through what was possible, thoroughly checking all possibilities in the roof cavity and ceiling.

Once Jayden finished the first install and took the protective coating off the highly reflective Spectralight® Infinity tubing, Jayden and the Dining room were instantly illuminated, bringing the outside in. It was quite the reveal and all parties were quite struck with the impact the new installation had made.

Sandy joined them on the day just as the inside ceiling was to be installed. Check out these great snapshots she took!

You can see from the pictures how incredibly different the whole feel of the room became, and you certainly can’t beat natural colour rendition and the quality of natural sunlight. Once the Kitchen was also installed there was absolutely no need for the electric lights to be on during the day again!

Thank you to Louise for her careful and thoughtful consideration in choosing Solatube Home. We are grateful for the opportunity to illuminate your days and Moonglow your nights! - Sandy @ Solatube Home
